Our wildest conference yet! Our Spring conference was a ‘roar-ing’ success as over 60 delegates joined us in the fabulous surrounding of Edinburgh Zoo!
Taking place in the chimpanzee enclosure, we’re happy to report that monkeys and members alike were all beautifully behaved!
Members were given the latest updates from the Compressed Air and Vacuum Technician (CAVT) apprenticeship training providers, Cogent Skills and The Engineering Trust, as we continue to encourage new, young talent into the compressed air industry. Tim Preece, BCAS Technical Officer gave a standards and regulatory update on the latest developments from Europe and how BCAS continues to lobby for the best outcomes for members and their customers alike.
Steve Downham, Technical Officer explained the latest developments with the BCAS Performance Verification Programme, the UK’s first, independent performance verification programme for 50 Hz rotary compressors in the European market. The scheme has built real momentum since its rollout, with eight member participants (representing 11 compressor brands) already participating. To date we have completed two rounds of testing, with a third underway. Round one focused on 7.5 kW fixed-speed machines and enabled us to fine tune the testing process and to set a strong foundation for round two. The second round focused on 11 kW variable-speed compressors, with clearer communication and information for participants and a significant increase in the number of datasheets added to the website.
Terry Collier, Training and Development Officer gave an overview of the Society’s continued drive to encourage new talent and skills into the industry – updating on the range of specialist training options, designed to meet individuals’ needs at every stage of their career progression.
Frances Marsh, Society Administrator gave an insight into where BCAS training is being sold and reminded the members of the training incentive programme.
Finally, Ashley Quarterman, Executive Director was excited to announce that we’ll be launching a brand-new website in September 2026.
With an improved resource library, refreshed member directory and brand-new member portal and membership area, the new site will also merge our other microsites (Armed Forces and PVP) into one place.
We’ll also be including a job board, free for all BCAS members to advertise vacancies, and a dedicated communications section for our latest news from the world of compressed air and vacuum.
There’s lots of work to do, but we can’t wait to share it with you later in the year!
